LAMS Educational Trip: Exploring History and Culture in Accra Pre-School And Lower Primary

On Friday, February 21st, students of Lovely Arms Montessori School (LAMS) embarked on an exciting and educational journey to explore some of Ghana’s historical landmarks. This much-anticipated trip was designed to provide the students with hands-on learning experiences outside the classroom, bringing history to life in a unique and engaging way.

Pre-School Adventure to Osu Castle

The little explorers from the Pre-School section had an unforgettable experience at Osu Castle, also known as Fort Christiansborg. As they arrived, they were greeted by the magnificent white-washed structure, rich with centuries of history. The children, guided by tour instructors, learned about the castle’s transformation over the years—from a trading post to a government seat of power.

The highlight of their tour was the chance to explore the interior halls and chambers, where they listened to fascinating stories about Ghana’s colonial past and how the castle played a role in shaping the nation’s history. Despite their young age, the students displayed keen curiosity, asking questions and showing interest in the artifacts on display.

Lower Primary Explores Jamestown Lighthouse and Usher Fort

Meanwhile, the Lower Primary students set out on an adventurous journey to two historical landmarks in Jamestown: the Jamestown Lighthouse and Usher Fort.

Their first stop was the famous Jamestown Lighthouse, a towering red-and-white beacon standing tall along the coastline. Climbing the lighthouse’s spiral staircase was an exciting challenge for the students. Once at the top, they were rewarded with a breathtaking panoramic view of Accra, the Atlantic Ocean, and the bustling fishing communities below. The tour guide explained how lighthouses serve as navigational aids for ships at sea, ensuring their safe passage into the harbor.

The second destination was Usher Fort, another remarkable colonial-era structure with deep historical significance. The students explored its ancient stone walls, dungeons, and courtyards while learning about Ghana’s past and the transatlantic slave trade. The stories of resilience and freedom fascinated them, giving them a deeper appreciation of their heritage.

A Day of Fun, Learning, and Lasting Memories

The educational trip was not only an opportunity for students to gain firsthand knowledge of history but also a chance for them to enjoy an outdoor learning experience. The LAMS team ensured the children had a safe, interactive, and memorable journey, making learning both exciting and meaningful.

As the day came to an end, students shared their favorite moments and lessons learned. Some were captivated by the grandeur of Osu Castle, others thrilled by the lighthouse climb, and many were touched by the historical lessons from Usher Fort.

LAMS remains committed to providing holistic education beyond the classroom, helping students connect with Ghana’s rich history and cultural heritage. This trip was just one of many to come, as the school continues to create impactful learning experiences for its students.

Stay tuned for more exciting educational adventures with LAMS!
